One-stage biofilters are able to degrade waste air with low hydrogen sulphide or ammonia concentrations. In case of inlet of higher concentrations this could lead to a high decrease of pH-values thus damaging in an irreversible way the biology in the biofilter.
In our patented belflor® H2S-Bioscrubbers we use special bacteria capable of degrading hydrogen sulphide. Thanks to the addition of oxygen, hydrogen sulphide is oxidised into elementary sulphur or into sulphate and ammonia is washed out by means of the resulting sulphur acid. Under ideal conditions hydrogen sulphide and ammonia concentrations are reduced by > 90 %.
